Assistance Programs

I thought that I’d post the link for Assistance Programs I’ve posted about in the last year. I know that there are several families in need of help.
I hope that these assistance programs will be able to give the help that is needed.

This link will direct you to a huge list of assistance links for Food, Utilities, Low Income Links

I will be searching for more Assistance Programs to post, now that fall/winter has arrived.

Furniture Bank Listings

A Furniture Bank is like a food bank, except with furniture and household furnishings. That is, donations of gently used (but still usable) furniture are collected and temporarily stored, and then passed out for FREE to families and individuals struggling financially to furnish their own homes.

This is a good idea for those in need without the means of affording new or a rent to own situation……I hope this helps someone who needs it.

How to Donate Your Eyeglasses and Sunglasses
New Eyes for the Needy accepts plastic eyeglasses, reading glasses and sunglasses in good condition. They also take metal glasses in any condition, melting down the ones in poor condition to sell as scrap metal.

Non-prescription sunglasses are always welcome, as they are distributed to people in communities near the equator in order to prevent sun damage to the eyes.

Simply pack your glasses into a padded envelope or box and ship to:

New Eyes for the Needy
549 Millburn Avenue
PO Box 332
Short Hills, NJ 07078

And hang on to your postage receipt—the shipping costs are tax deductible.

Using FreeCycle

I wanted to post about a network called Free Cycle.

“The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,780 groups with 7,100,000 members across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It’s all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer.”

Membership is free. To sign up, find your community here!

I have been a member of my area’s group for a while and everytime something comes up that I can use, it’s always taken before I can respond to the email. Well, not today!

I emailed a person who has a stand up deep freezer and is letting it go, because he has no room for it. It was given to his wife 2 weeks ago from a co-worker who said it works. He is plugging it in to verify it does work before I go pick it up.

So if there is something you are in need of or no longer need, register with your local group, you may actually get lucky like I did or make someone else happy.
